New features coming up for blogger page elements

Yesterday two features were added to Blogger in draft: Polls and enclosure links.As you all know the polls page element lets you add a poll to your blog's side bar. You pick the questions and answers you want, and then your audience vote.Enclosure links allows you to turn your blog to a podcast and just in case you have audio and video files uploaded on the web, you can link to it. With this your audience can subscrbe to your contents and download it. You can watch and read about this widgets that are in the works.

Dry your hands in secs

How many times ha ve you ever waited to completly dry your hands in a public restroom. I must tell I hardly wait because I think it takes to much of my time. Most of the time I usually dry my hand using a paper towel or my skirts. Crazy huh?

June 26th: A day of silence decleared by Internet radio stations

In protest to the royalty rate increase by the Copyright Royalty Rate Board, thousands of webcasters will go silent and cut off the music on June 26. It is reported that some of the participants of this protest includes Yahoo, Rhapsody, MTV Online and Live 365.
Jake Ward, SaveNetRadio coalition spokesperson, stated that this arbitrary and drastic rate increases set by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) threatens the very livelihood of thousands of webcasters and their millions of listeners throughout the country. He also mentioned that the
campaign to save Internet radio — a movement which comprises of thousands of webcasters, artists and independent labels, and Net radio listeners — has brought this issue to the national forefront and said that there is still more to be done before the approaching deadline of July 15 (tagged "A day when internet radio dies.").

Have a Blog Backup Day

Have you ever thought that you could loose your blog at any time or something could go wrong and you loose all your posts all at once. Well, I've thought about it a couple of times but most of the time I bypass the thought. But here is something I bummmed into today "Blog Backup Day." Its an unfficial day that just allows you to create the habit of backing up your blog on the 13th of every month. i think its really a nice idea it kind of makes you organised. Though its not mandatory that you must backup on the 13th you can set up your own schedule of backing up your blog. The whole essence of this is to start the habit by setting a definite schedule and frequency. I think the next question I need to answer is how to I back up my post? eBay: Google’s largest paying search advertiser in the U.S. resumes advertising

I was listening to a podcast from Cnet's daily podcast, Buzz Out Loud, where I heard eBay had pulled out their ads from Google’s US Adwords network. This was quite a suprise, knowing that eBay was one of Google's largest paying search advitisers and I wondered how this break in partnership would affect Google. But thank goodness eBay is back after pulling out their ads for 10 days.

901am reports that following the pullout, eBay increased their spending on alternative advertising, primarily on Google’s rivals Yahoo Inc, Ask.com, and MSN. And now, even as they resume their advertising on Google Adwords, eBay claims that they don’t need to spend as much on the search giant’s platform as they have proven that their traffic is not entirely dependent on their paid listing. “Other partners, Yahoo and AOL and MSN, really stepped up and provided a lot of value,” eBay spokesperson Hani Durzy said. “And natural search continues to drive a lot of valuable traffic to the site.”
“Over the last seven years, we have worked closely with eBay to drive customers to their site and build value for their business and the business of their sellers,” Google spokesman Brandon McCormick wrote in an e-mail. “We look forward to a continued partnership.”

It's been quite some time since I posted on this site. As you can see the last time I posted was on the 28th of March. Well... I got involved in this huge project with a few of my friends. We just launched a blog site and its been some challenge trying to maintain the site on a daily basis but I have enjoyed every bit of it. I think you should check it out.

Fujitsu's biggest HDD for laptops

Fujitsu has announced it's 200GB Serial ATA 2.5in hard disk drive designed for notebook computers. For you computer geeks you know what that means, right? you'll now be able to carry along all your favourite movies, audio files, you just name it, at all times.It is said that the MHV2200BT has some interesting features. It spins at 4,200rpm and it's got 8MB of cache memory. The drive can withstand 300G of operating shock and 900G of non-operating shock.
The drive will be shipped around the world come May.

Michael Dell

Michael Saul Dell (born February 23, 1965 in Houston, Texas) is the founder of Dell Inc.
He is the son of an orthodontist and grew up in a well-to-do Jewish family. He had his first encounter with a computer at the age of 15 when he broke down a brand new Apple II computer and rebuilt it, just to see if he could. Dell attended Memorial High School in Houston, Texas, where he did not excel scholastically. Reportedly one of his teachers, still currently teaching there, commented to him that he "would probably never go anywhere in life."
After graduating high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin intending to become a physician.While at the university, he started a computer company called PC's Limited [sic] in his dormitory room.
The company became successful enough that, with the help of an additional loan from his grandparents, Dell dropped out of college at the age of 19 to run the business full-time. In 1987, PC's Limited changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation.
Accolades for Dell include: "Entrepreneur of the Year" from Inc. magazine; "Man of the Year" from PC Magazine; "Top CEO in American Business" from Worth Magazine; "CEO of the Year" from Financial World and Industry Week magazines.
In the 2005 publication of the Forbes 400, Dell was listed as the 4th richest man in the United States and the 18th richest in the world with net assets of around US$ 18 billion.

William (Bill) H. Gates is chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation, the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.
Born on Oct. 28, 1955, Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters. Their father, William H. Gates II, is a Seattle attorney. Their late mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher, University of Washington regent, and chairwoman of United Way International.
Gates attended public elementary school and the private Lakeside School. There, he discovered his interest in software and began programming computers at age 13.
In 1973, Gates entered Harvard University as a freshman, where he developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the first microcomputer - the MITS Altair.
In his junior year, Gates left Harvard to devote his energies to Microsoft, a company he had begun in 1975 with his childhood friend Paul Allen. Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. Gates' foresight and his vision for personal computing have been central to the success of Microsoft and the software industry.
Gates oversaw the invention and marketing of the MS-DOS operating system, the Windows operating interface, the Internet Explorer browser, and a multitude of other popular computer products. Along the way he gained a reputation for fierce competitiveness and aggressive business savvy.

Computers and technology as a whole have taken a big turn, thanks to guys like Steve Jobs
Bill Gates and the others. Now lets take a look at their acheivements.

Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple, which he co-founded in 1976, and Pixar, the Academy-Award-winning animation studios which he co-founded in 1986.
Steve Jobs innovative idea of a personel computer led him into revolutionizing the computer hardware and software industry. When Jobs was twenty one, he and a friend, Wozniak, built a personel computer called the Apple. The Apple changed people's idea of a computer from a gigantic and inscrutable mass of vacuum tubes only used by big business and the government to a small box used by ordinary people. No company has done more to democratize the computer and make it user-friendly than Apple Computer Inc. Jobs software development for the Macintosh re-introduced windows interface and mouse technology which set a standard for all applications interface in software.

Mordern Computers Make History

"History of Modern Computers" finally brings us to a name most of you will have heard of. IBM stands for International Business Machines, the largest computer company in the world today. IBM is responsible for numerous inventions having to do with computers.
The company incorporated in 1911, starting as a major producer of punch card tabulating machines. In the 1930s, IBM built a series of calculators (the 600s) based on their card processing equipment. In 1944, IBM co-sponsored the Mark 1 computer (together with Harvard University), the first machine to compute long calculations automatically.

Into the digital era.

The dawn of the digital age began in World War Two with the invention of secret computers to break German codes. More generally, the war inspired huge advances in electronics on both sides of the Atlantic. By the end of the 1940s, it was clear that the future belonged to computers.
It was the telecommunications industry that had provided the bulk of the components and expertise from which the first computers were assembled.
In the end, the favour was returned because it was in telecommunications that the new computers were able to make their biggest early impacts.

The Computer Age Dawns!

Some of the boldest early steps into the computer age were taken in Britain. Alan Turing, the father of modern computing, did his main work at Cambridge University before joining the team of code-breakers at Bletchley Park near Milton Keynes.

By designing a huge machine now generally regarded as the world's first programmable electronic computer, the then Post Office Research Branch played a crucial but secret role in helping to win the Second World War. The purpose of Colossus was to decipher messages that came in on a German cipher machine, called the Lorenz SZ.

A Brief History On Computer Technology.

A complete history of computing would include a multitude of diverse devices such as the ancient Chinese abacus, the Jacquard loom (1805) and Charles Babbage's ``analytical engine'' (1834). It would also include discussion of mechanical, analog and digital computing architectures. As late as the 1960s, mechanical devices, such as the Marchant calculator, still found widespread application in science and engineering. During the early days of electronic computing devices, there was much discussion about the relative merits of analog vs. digital computers. In fact, as late as the 1960s, analog computers were routinely used to solve systems of finite difference equations arising in oil reservoir modeling. In the end, digital computing devices proved to have the power, economics and scalability necessary to deal with large scale computations. Digital computers now dominate the computing world in all areas ranging from the hand calculator to the supercomputer and are pervasive throughout society. Therefore, this brief sketch of the development of scientific computing is limited to the area of digital, electronic computers. Look out for more later.
